Course Description

This course introduces students to the process of Islamic jurisprudence — how a jurist (Faqih) interprets the Qur’an and Sunnah to extract a ruling, and the classifications of rules that result. Topics covered include:
  • The process by which a jurist (Faqih) interprets the Qur’an and Sunnah and extracts a ruling, including the classifications of rules
  • Independent reasoning and following a religious leader (Taqleed)
  • Rules of cleanliness (Taharah) and uncleanliness (Najasah) in Islam, including ablution (Wudhu) and bathing (Ghusl)

About the Instructor

Hujjatul Islam Syed Mohsin Rezvi is a Resident Scholar in Surrey, British Columbia. He studied at the Islamic Seminary (Hawza) in Qum, Iran, and has served as a Pre-Hawza Program teacher for the past 15 years.
