Congratulations to the Imam of our time Imam al-Mehdi (atfs), our righteous scholars, the Leader of the Muslim World, and all human beings on the birth anniversary of Sayyed ush-Shuhadaa Qurratu ‘Ayn iz-Zahraa Sayyedu Shabaabi Ahl-Jannah al-Imam al-Hussain (as).
His birth brought both happiness and sadness to the house of Ali and Fatima (as), the house of the Prophet of Islam (saawa).
With the announcement of his birth, an angel brought news of his martyrdom as well.
The Holy Messenger of Allah (s) said:
“Hussain is a part of me, and I am a part of Hussain”
Imam Hussain (as) was very special for the Holy Prophet (s). As a child, if he climbed on his back during salat, he prolonged his prostration until he dismounted by his own will. On many occasions, the Prophet (s) mentioned the rank of Fatima’s sons.
“Hassan and Hussain are the two leaders of the youth of paradise.“
He has also mentioned their significance to him.
“The one who loved Hassan and Hussain, has truly loved me and the one who hated them both, has actually hated me.“
The love of the progeny of the Prophet (s) is the essence of Islam.
It is reported on the authority of Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn al-Abbas (ra) that the Holy Messenger of Allah (s) said:
“Love Allah for He gives you sustenance from his bounties, love me for the sake of Allah’s love, and love my progeny (Ahlulbayt) for the sake of my love.“
The Holy Prophet (s) brought the message of Allah to mankind and Hussain (as) protected this message with his flesh and blood. The love of Allah revolves around the love of Hussain.
“Allah loves the one who loves Hussain”
Imam Hussain (as) played an important role in Islam long before the event of Karbala. As a child, he was counted among the five infallibles when Allah announced the purity of the Ahlulbayt in the Qur’an (Ayat ut-Tatheer 33:33).
He was also among the five when the Prophet challenged the Nasara of Najran for the event of Mubahala and revealed surah Al-Imran (3:61).
“Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, ‘Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our souls and your souls, then let us pray earnestly, and call down Allah’s curse upon the liars‘.“
Allah revealed surah Al-Insan when Hussain (as), along with the rest of the Ahlulbayt (as), fasted for three days and fed the needy, the orphan, and the freed captive.
“And who give food – however great be their own want of it- unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive,” (76:8)
“[saying, in their hearts] ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We desire no reward from you, nor thanks.” (76:9)
The Holy Prophet once said:
“My progeny is similar to the Ark of Noah (as), whosoever embarked on it, achieved salvation and whosoever abandoned it, was sunk and lost.”
In praise of Imam Hussain (as), the Prophet declared:
“Verily Hussain is the shining light of guidance and the ark of salvation”.
Hussain (a.s) is the Light of Guidance for all the free people of the world- from all races, cultures, and religions.
His life is an example for those who are fighting for peace and justice.
He is the soul of every holy movement.
His message extends beyond time to enlighten the hearts of those who confront all oppressors and dictators.
In the sight of Hussain (as), living with the oppressor is affliction.
“I do not consider death except as prosperity and do not consider life along with oppressors and tyrants except as affliction and anguish”
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,
Remembering Imam Hussain is not about knowing the history of Islam.
It is about understanding his sacrifice, and using it to help the oppressed people of our time.
The path of Imam Hussain is the path of patience and sacrifice. It is his example and the lessons from his life which will lead to the salvation of mankind.
